When rats, squirrels, bats, raccoons, or even mice get in your attic or crawl space, they make a mess. Their urine and droppings get into the insulation, where they can cause odors. Their filth also serves as a breeding media for insects, as well as molds, fungi and other pathogens. The spores of mycotic organisms can then get into to your home's living area, especially if like many people you have your central air-conditioning unit in the attic.
Animals in an attic or crawl space can also directly damage the insulation by tearing it, using it for nesting material, or walking over it and flattening it out. Because it's the air trapped in the insulation, and not the insulation itself, that gives it its thermal insulating efficiency, when animals force that air out by trampling the insulation and flattening it out, it can no longer do its job. This results it it costing you more money to heat and cool your home.
Once insulation has been contaminated, it can't be cleaned; and once it's been flattened out or damaged, it can't be fluffed back up or repaired. The only way to fix contaminated or damaged insulation is to remove it, clean up the substrate, dispose of the old insulation, and replace it with new insulation. That's why whenever we do an animal-removal job in an attic or crawl space, we make it a point to inspect the insulation for contamination and damage. Depending on the types of animals and the extent of the animal problem, none, some, or all of the insulation may need to be replaced.
Rid-A-Critter has been offering contaminated insulation replacement for many years. We started providing the service because so many of our customers needed it, and it was more efficient and less expensive for us to do the work while we at the job site than for the customer to have to hire another crew. But as with all the work we do, we wanted to make sure we did it right; so we invested in the best insulation installation equipment on the market, as well as in the training our techs needed to use it properly.
Because of this, the quality of our insulation-replacement service is at least as good as that of any of the companies that perform this work as a specialty service. We use the same equipment and only the best materials available, and our technicians are as well-trained trained as are any in the business.
That's probably why shortly after we started doing this work, we started to get word-of-mouth referrals to customers who wanted us to insulate their attics even though they'd never had an animal problem. We also get calls from customers who did their own animal control work, but who want us to replace the insulation. (We do accept these jobs if we're able to do so, but our animal-removal customers get first priority.)
Our insulation-replacement services, like all of the work we do, is seamless to the customer and includes all of the following:
